Staying True to Your Boundaries
Setting up healthy boundaries around your life is an important step, but it’s only the first step. You have to make a commitment to honor those boundaries when someone tries to bring something unhealthy through your gate. This takes raw determination because attacks against your borders can happen when you are tired and don’t feel like standing up against the opposition. If you fail to keep your boundaries in place during these times then you aren’t going to be able to accomplish what you set out to do.
People will bring all kinds of excuses and reasons to explain away their unhealthy behavior, but if it crosses your boundaries then it cannot be tolerated. Period. Boundaries are not meant to change based on your feelings or the actions of others. If you took the time to prayerfully put them in place then they need to be protected at all cost.
Don’t try to do this alone. Let God strengthen you through His Word (see examples below). Have an accountability partner that you trust and can reach out to. The journey isn’t always going to be easy, but it will be well worth it in the end.
Deuteronomy 33:25 The bolts of your gates will be iron and bronze, and your strength will equal your days.
