Are You a Survivor?
This morning I was talking with my husband about the avalanche that buried a hotel in Italy. I was struck by a comment that he made. He said, “They will probably survive. It’s amazing how the human body goes into survival mode during a time of crisis. The ones who panic might not make it though.”
I’ve heard it said before that you can’t control what happens to you but you can control how you react to it. Reality tv shows like “Survivor” blatantly reveal what a person is made of. You can see first hand how the same struggle makes some people dig in their heels of survival yet cause others to give up.
What’s your survival chance? What’s mine? When I think of the reasons why people panic I think of those who have no hope to hold onto. I think of people who feel lost and completely alone, who have no control over what is happening to them or around them.
That’s why the Bible says that God is the God of our hope. He wants to be the reason that we survive. Everyone wants something to hope in that will not change, to be the “constant” in their lives. I am so grateful that God doesn’t change and that He calls us to put our hope in Him.
Every day as I sit with God in His Word my hope in Who He is for me grows. I am learning to be a survivor.
In Jesus’ name…
